Resilient Cities of the Future
A Cloud Studio project curated by Skidmore, Owiings and Merill’s (SOM) Chicago office, and further developed as a part of design thesis, explored the potentials of developing a High-Speed Rail network connecting Toronto and Chicago in the Midwest. Acting as a Social Condenser for downtown Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, the new City Center Transit Station, is developed as the point of convergence for the community. Catalyzed by the proposed Midwestern high-speed rail line, this project seeks to introduce the hybrid, mixed-use, transit oriented development - featuring retail, hospitality, offices, residential and recreational spaces - to instigate the shift towards Eco-cities. These inter-modal transit infrastructure aims to bring a strategically sustainable change at a neighborhood scale, thus eventually repositioning the suburb into a socially active urban city.
